- קְצִיצָהf. (קָצַץ) 1) cutting, felling. B. Kam.91b אילן העומד לק׳ (Ms. F. לִיקָּצֵץ) a tree which must be cut. Lam. R. introd. (R. Zʿera) שבו זמן ק׳ יפהוכ׳ on it (the 15th of Ab) begins the good season for cutting trees for fuel, v. מַאֲכוֹלֶת. Bekh.34b (in Chald. dict.) איכוין … בהאי ק׳וכ׳ he intended to make himself appear clean by cutting off (the leprous spot), and the rabbis punished him for this very cut (so that he could never be declared clean from this cut-off leprous spot); a. e. 2) stipulation (of price ), bargain. Shebu.45b ק׳ ודאיוכ׳ stipulations of prices one surely remembers, v. קִיצוּתָא. 3) pl. קְצִיצוֹת cut fruits. Maasr. III, 4 מצא ק׳ בדרך ואפי׳ בצד שדה ק׳ (Ms. M. קציעית) if one finds cut fruit (single berries) on the road or even beside a field where cut fruit has been spread to dry; B. Mets.21b Var. (ed. קציעות). 4) (v. קְצִיצָה a. next w.) the capsule of the Tfillin containing Biblical sections. Ber.24a. Succ.26b top. Kel. XVIII, 8 התיר ק׳וכ׳ if he opened the first of the four compartments of the Tfillin and repaired it; a. e.Pl. קְצִיצִין, v. next w. 5) separation, severance of connection, v. קְצָצָה.
